A fascinating, well-written book that is difficult to put down. In the tradition of The Celestine Prophecy and The Alchemist, Elyn Aviva takes a very spiritual journey and makes it approachable to everyone in fiction form. It can be read as a straight novel, or it can be taken deeper and read as a guide for your own spiritual quest. Bringing in almost every element of possibility for the modern seeker, Aviva manages to weave it into a very readable story line. Metaphysical novels can sometimes get bogged down in the very spirituality they are trying to make approachable, coming across more as an academic treatise. The author avoids this common trap by developing complex, multidimensional characters that the reader can identify with and care about. A message is brought across, but without hammering it over your head. There is definitely something for everyone in here-history, travelogue, metaphysics, religion, wrapped in a very good storyline. The bibliography and guide to historical names was very useful and appropriate. More novels that deal with actual events, places, and concepts should do the same. The readers' interest in a subject is piqued, and this gives them a place to start their own journey. It is hard to read this book and not immediately go online and buy tickets to Europe. Aviva made the landscape and people come alive. The Journey is definitely just that—and you never have to leave your chair. —Melissa Powell |
